This paper introduces work being carried out by UKPS to evaluate methods of improving combustion performance. It covers the basic principles involved in optimising flare systems, with particular attention being paid to the formation of NOx. The final section deals with the current work and the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software to assist design evaluation.
